this quote is the first thing that caught my eye when visiting the website for Sugar Hairsalon. the thing is, i've said this toooo many times in my life... too many.

last friday.. or maybe saturday i went to an art show at this hair salon(???)... i know... i was like, weird... turns out my friend Jess' band was playing as well. so i hung around and ate pizza and looked at the, what seemed to be, mostly LA themed art. well on Tuesday I decided to check it out again during business hours and maybe.. possibly.. get a haircut. not only do they succeed in the following:

"you don't like a fussy salon. you wish there was a cool place to get your hair done where you felt like you were just hangin' out with friends.

we've created a space where we can speak honestly, create freely and make people look good. located on the border of echo park and silverlake, sugar hair salon has recently migrated east from the sunset juction to the old jeff electric gallery.

near the intersection of sunset and parkman, we now have twice the space, our own parking lot as well as cocktails and rotating art exhibitions. "

.... but they also got it right... the first time!

Tommy (the owner) cut my hair. and he was really great. i even hung around and had lunch with them.

So i'm really obsessed with this album. Its produced by Andrew Butler (with various people providing vocals on the tracks, including Antony from Antony and the Johnsons) and its put out on DFA/EMI. You should go check it out right now. My favorite track is "Athene". Unfortunately there isn't a video out yet for that song.
